Glasgow Violin Teacher

Glasgow Violin Teacher

The Glasgow Violin School is a private studio in Glasgow, on the south side in Netherlee. I offer violin tuition to all ages, from as young as 4 to adult. I specialise in setting children up as beginners and building a solid technique, with a view to developing their expressive capabilities as much as possible. I work a lot on musicianship games with children which they find to be great fun and it really develops confidence. I find that this part of my work is very important for the development of the young musician, they learn to sing at pitch, interact with each other musically, and build a strong sense of rhythm & pulse.

I also work for Sistema Scotland, the highly successful social programme that uses orchestral training as a vehicle to enhance the lives of children. The programme was inspired by El Sistema in Venezuela, and pioneered in Scotland by Richard Holloway. I spent 3 years working in the first Big Noise centre in Raploch (Stirling) and then moved to Govanhill in March 2013 when this new centre was opened.

I spent my younger years as a member of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra and as a session player for British folk, rock and pop bands. I also performed in classical recitals, as a soloist with orchestras and was involved heavily in chamber music. As well as this, I particularly enjoyed collaborative ensembles exploring the folk music of Africa & the Gypsy music of eastern Europe.

However, my passion really lies with teaching now – working with children and young people with a view to using the pedagogical and systemic approach of music to enhance their lives.
